Here is a stunning natural Noble Fir. I am 6’4″ – how tall is this beauty? This is my favourite out of all the trees we got this year. I wonder who will buy it….
We like Poinsettias ! They really do announce that Christmas is actually approaching fast ! As with everything we sell , we only want to offer the best of the best. You will notice the difference. We also seek out new varieties, new colours, but wouldn’t be caught dead selling spray painted ‘blue’ poinsettias. Yuck !!! The beauties shown here are $12.99 – a great price for a nice large plant in perfect condition.
Poinsettias also come in many sizes….tiny ones are perfect additions to a table setting. Guests can take them home as a ‘party favour’ afterwards. Each comes in a ceramic ‘ball’ container and costs less than a cafe latte !
Originally from Mexico, Poinsettias require BRIGHT LIGHT !!! They will drop their leaves if in a dull or dingy place. The soil MUST BE MOIST – never dry. NEVER. These plants we sell are greenhouse grown, spoiled babies and cannot endure the torture they evolved in. Most people toss them away after January. Permission granted.
’ROOT’ brand candles developed a huge following at our former store ‘HOBBS’, in Kerrisdale. Now we are carrying them at the nursery ! So many familiar faces asked for them ! For those who have never tried these candles, you may find it hard to believe how impressive they are. Out of a draft they usually burn dripless and very very slowly. It takes two and one-half hours to burn one inch. This means you get many evenings of enjoyment out of them instead of the usual one party per taper scenario. You will agree that they are worth the price.
We offer three lengths : 7″ @ $7.95 each , 9″ @ $9.95 each, and 12″ @ $12.95 each.

Southlands Nursery looks especially pretty in the dark !! We have loads of charming lit decorations and a fantastic greenhouse that looks best at this time of year. We have loaded ourselves with several of the best and most popular lines from our old sister store HOBBS, which closed last year in Kerrisdale. After looking at the selection of Christmas ornaments we offer, you’ll agree that they are the most unique and well-chosen in the entire city. We are open from 9 AM to 5:30 PM every day.
Now that our store ‘HOBBS’ is (sadly) gone from Kerrisdale, we are offering lots of the same lines of Christmas ornaments at the nursery. These little mice are all handmade, one at a time, out of felt. Each one is slightly different and has a personality all its own. They measure about about 4.5″ tall and sell for $12.95 each. They are unbreakable, and nice and light for mailing.
Also made out of felt, these whimsical gnomes measures 5.5″ long and can hang from trees or twigs indoors. Each one is a bit different . They sell for $10.00 each, and can also stand on their hand-carved wooden feet, if you prefer.
I also thought these cute little houses (below) were quite special. They are made entirely out of real cinnamon bark and smell terrific !! Put a battery operated votive candle inside them (never put a real candle in them) to create a charming glow . the smaller houses sell for $30.00 each, and come in three styles. The bigger houses sell for $40.00 and $50.00 depending on size. They will last forever, and would make a terrific hostess gift idea. The largest size is 6″ x 4″ x 8″ tall, the smallest is 3″ x 3″ x 6″ .
Another group of ornaments we are happy to have this year are the ‘brushy’ animals . There are North American species like racoons,and squirrels, and also African ‘Safari’ types like lions, elephants and giraffes. Prices range from $8.95 to $12.95 each .
