where beauty always comes before profit.

Established in 1991, and located in a charming 'equestrian pocket' on Vancouver's upscale
westside, this unique area called Southlands is a horse friendly enclave right in the city.
Large lots and small acreages house many stables, and it is not unusual to see horses and their
riders go by our gates. With delicious free coffee always on hand, many people tell us that they
come down to the nursery just to experience the beautiful atmosphere.

The only thing I love more than gardening is sharing that passion with others.
I've had the pleasure of writing 2 books and have been featured in a number of professional
horticultural and gardening magazines. For the past 16 years I've also worked in television on
GlobalBC's Saturday morning news 'Gardening with Thomas Hobbs' segments. The nursery has
been featured on virtually every gardening show including 'The Victory Garden', 'Martha Stewart'
and 'Recreating Eden'. We were even home to 'The Orchid Nazi' on the hit TV show The X Files!

Not your mother’s hanging basket !

037 I said ‘Yes!’ immediately when shown these groovy new hanging saucers !  They can’t be called hanging baskets as they look nothing like baskets. They are powder-coated,  galvanized metal dish gardens that you hang. They come in bright ‘Mad Men’ colours like orange, turquoise, retro greens and red.  They are made in Vancouver by the very talented Todd Holloway and sold in a few retail outlets such as Vancouver Special on Main St and at Southlands Nursery. There are two sizes :  17.5″ diameter  is $128.00  , 16.5″ diameter is $118.00 unplanted.

O.M.G.!!!

We have a small stock of these hardy orchids for sale right now . They are Cypripedium hybrids, bred in Germany from North American native species. They are stunning ! Cypripediums are found in every Canadian province and many American states. I have a vivid childhood memory of a clump of yellow ones growing in a hedge down the street from us in St. Boniface, Winnipeg ! Now that’s hardy for you ! Ours are in bloom, and are about eight years old. They are (sit down) $75.00 each.
