We just unpacked another container of garden antiques from England ! Each piece is chosen by Thomas Hobbs, personally. An item has to be interesting, unique and somewhat affordable to make the journey to Vancouver. Here is a sample of some new pieces, drop by to see the rest !
I liked the simplicity of these English limestone garden benches. They are similar, but not a pair . One is 47″ L x 18″ W x 18″ H , 1800.00 . The other is 45″L x 15″W x 17″ H, $1500.00
An impressive pair of 19th C hand wrought iron gates. 110″ W x 98″ H $5500.00 pair.
A white marble fountain with a black stone basin . The re-curved leaf design is beautiful. 55″ x 55″ . Sadly, it came with a big chip on the back of the white basin. Looks fixable. $3,000.00
This hand-carved stone urn is amazing. It is huge ! I wish it could talk….(about Lady Mary?) 68″ H x 22″ base. $4,000.00
I am nuts about this lead chimpanzee. Probably the only one in Canada …. 26″ x 12″ base . $2,995.00. Stone base sold separately.
A lovely lead cistern, usually found at ‘major houses’ where they are used to collect rainwater from down pipes. This is then used to water potted plants on the terrace etc. 30″ x 21″ x 27″ H . $3,000.00
This charming old cast stone dog, probably a Labrador, would make a lovely memorial to a favourite pet. It is 19″ long, and is $1200.00
We LOVE these two teak benches, as designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens . 76″ long. $3,000.00
This hand-carved 19thC marble statue of Jesus and a child was vandalized and so removed from a cemetery. So sad. It is beautifully carved (you can see veins in Jesus’s feet) and called out to me….. 55″ H x 20″ w x 24″D $7500.00
This is a really big sundial ! I have a ‘thing’ for sundials…… and I can imagine this one sitting in the middle of a parterre of herbs and boxwood. The dial itself is a replacement, but suits the 19thC base well. 27″ base x 41″ H . $3500.00
Another elegant sundial . Imagine what these ornaments have witnessed over their years….36″ H x 13″ D , with original bronze dial. $3500.00
This copper-clad bust of a nurse is a work of art . Her expressive face must have adorned a Victorian hospital somewhere in England. 26″ x 14′ x 8″ $2995.00
I bought this 19th C hand- wrought iron trellis/front porch arbor thinking how great it would be in a local garden. To divide up space, support clematis or add to an existing doorway? It measures 99″W x 91″ H x 22″ D and is $2,000.00
I am particularly fond of this very unusual cast iron urn . It is 30″ tall, with an 18″ x 18″ base. I hope I get a chance to plant it up, with tufty grasses and bronze-toned sedges…. $2200.00
A wonderful pair of cast iron griffins! Each measures 22″ x 22″ x 8″ at the widest. Made in England, circa 1900. $4,000.00 pair. Very ‘Downton Abbey’ ( check out their front door entrance!)
HIGHCLERE CASTLE (above)
A beautiful and sophisticated pair of lead urns from France, circa 1930. The lids are removable for planting. They measure 27″ H x 14″ D. $3500.00 pair
Wonderful pair of huge carved stone architectural corbels ! Beautiful patina – perfect laying about among succulents …. 29″ x 12″ 12″ . Super heavy. $2500.00 pair.
A spectacular cast stone griffin ! 36″ x 15″ x 30″ . Probably from a demolished cinema….. $2500.00 (SOLD)
