It means bending over and getting on your hands and knees, but you just might have a very special Snowdrop and not even know it ! They may ‘all look the same’ from above, but have subtle differences that drive snowdrop fanciers wild ! One very special snowdrop bulb recently sold on EBAY for over seven hundred pounds ! That is over one thousand dollars. So get out there and look! We have pots of ‘ordinary’ snowdrops in stock, in bloom, for $3.99 . Even these show variation…. a couple of Vancouver’s best gardeners have already scooped a few. We also are brimming with pots of forced tulips, hyacinths, crocus, muscari, fritillarias and dwarf iris . These are a quick way to ‘fake’ some spring colour by planting them now, in the garden. You can create long-lasting patio pots using them, and later plant the flowered bulbs permanently out in a garden bed. Most are priced at $3.99 and contain several bulbs per pot.
The lovely green striped snowdrop on the right was found in a Burnaby, B.C. garden and named after its late discoverer, Rosemary Burnham. It is causing a sensation in England, and is one of the most sought-after snowdrops on earth. I knew her, and she gave me (and other plant friends) a few bulbs of it. Lucky she did, because word got out and someone found her house and stole her entire clump! It wasn’t even in bloom !
