Finally – some ‘ more interesting ‘ Primulas for your winter pots ! I think everyone is sick and tired of the basic ‘grocery store’ strains of primula…. gaudy pink, red, yellow, a few white and a few blue ones. I certainly am. This year, kooky new types are appearing and I am so relieved. They sell for the same price as the ‘old’ types ($2.49 each), but are very unique. Because these plants are grown from seed, each one is a unique clone. The variation is amazing. Many have a lovely perfume, and it is more pronounced in the sun. Freezing temperatures will hurt (or even kill) them, so protect if the weather dips below zero. Up on the steps, close to the house or under a porch makes a big difference to their survival. Several are so unique, I would coddle them along from year to year as you may never see that exact looking flower again.
