Finally, sunny weather and warm temperatures have arrived ! Perennials have been waiting for this….. and here is one that was a big surprise hit for me.
Last year (2009), I planted one pathetic, unsalable scraggly hardy geranium on a sunny bank out in Langley. I thought it might die from no water, no anything ! Suddenly, it went beserk and grew into an incredible mound of very double soft pinky/blue flowers that must be three feet tall and three feet across ! What a terrific plant !
Today I found out its name! it is Geranium pratense ‘Summer Skies’, and we have them to sell. It is always exciting for me to discover something new, and something I like! I can vouch for this plant . It must be really hardy - my area is quite cold and windy in winter. I have never had to stake it, trim it or fertilize it. After a month of flowering madly, it is just starting to show brown on the flowers and I see myself sheering it back soon…..
I will keep you posted on what happens to it then ! A one gallon pot is $14.99 .
Geranium pratense ‘Summer Skies’ in full bloom in its second year. The fence is atleast 4′ tall ! This plant gets big !
