Established in 1991, and located in a charming 'equestrian pocket' on Vancouver's upscale
westside, this unique area called Southlands is a horse friendly enclave right in the city.
Large lots and small acreages house many stables, and it is not unusual to see horses and their
riders go by our gates. With delicious free coffee always on hand, many people tell us that they
come down to the nursery just to experience the beautiful atmosphere.
We hope you will visit soon!

The only thing I love more than gardening is sharing that passion with others.
I've had the pleasure of writing 2 books and have been featured in a number of professional
horticultural and gardening magazines. For the past 16 years I've also worked in television on
GlobalBC's Saturday morning news 'Gardening with Thomas Hobbs' segments. The nursery has
been featured on virtually every gardening show including 'The Victory Garden', 'Martha Stewart'
and 'Recreating Eden'. We were even home to 'The Orchid Nazi' on the hit TV show The X Files!

Tne Next Time You’re in Paris…..

Filed under: Uncategorized — yodiehead @ 10:41 pm

You have to go to the ‘Marche aux Puces’ flea market . This exhausting labyrinth of antique and ‘brocante’ dealers is easy to reach by subway.  Just figure out that your destination is the ‘Porte de Cliquencourt’ – the end of the line (for the correct train) – and get out once there.

Southlands Nursery version'Flea Market' Style (2) Follow the throngs to the flea market. You cannot go wrong.  Wade your way past luggage shops and tacky stands selling jeans until you realize you are surrounded by funky old stuff !  Keep your hands on your wallet or purse, but don’t be afraid to buy! There are shippers right there who will take care of everything. They make it easy and couldn’t survive without us dumb tourists. I had to buy a chicken -wire -doored library bookcase eight feet tall, and used a company called ‘Hedley’s Humpers’ to send it to Vancouver. Even with freight, it was less than one-half the price it would be in a fabulous antique shop in North America.
This has been my inspiration to recreate a French flea market in one part of Southlands Nursery!  I have been scouting for tasteful reproductions of flea market type stuff…. and throwing in a few random treasures from my personal stash.  It is a casual jumble of well-priced decorating debris!
With winter approaching, we need to think of our indoor set-dec…. especially when you live in a rainy place like Vancouver.
