Established in 1991, and located in a charming 'equestrian pocket' on Vancouver's upscale
westside, this unique area called Southlands is a horse friendly enclave right in the city.
Large lots and small acreages house many stables, and it is not unusual to see horses and their
riders go by our gates. With delicious free coffee always on hand, many people tell us that they
come down to the nursery just to experience the beautiful atmosphere.
We hope you will visit soon!

The only thing I love more than gardening is sharing that passion with others.
I've had the pleasure of writing 2 books and have been featured in a number of professional
horticultural and gardening magazines. For the past 16 years I've also worked in television on
GlobalBC's Saturday morning news 'Gardening with Thomas Hobbs' segments. The nursery has
been featured on virtually every gardening show including 'The Victory Garden', 'Martha Stewart'
and 'Recreating Eden'. We were even home to 'The Orchid Nazi' on the hit TV show The X Files!

An Important Fence

Filed under: Uncategorized — yodiehead @ 9:31 pm

A glimpse into my Iris garden out at the farm in Langley, B.C.  I didn’t coordinate colours with the neighbours cows, but it looks like it !  I have always loved iris , in art and in the garden. They are such survivors ! The happiest ones are always at some forgotten old church, or right against the cement curb along a driveway. Because they require good  drainage, mine are on raised ‘hills’ alongside my pathway.  The colours are incredible – lots of unusual combos . I love the fragrance , too . Some smell like lemon cookies, some like grapefruit…. some like construction worker .  I am experimenting with hybridizing (trying) and if it works, I may give them the space now devoted to daylilies. I’m sure I’ll change my mind in July, when it is the daylilies turn to seduce me….

The Iris Are Killing Me .

This just might be the most beautiful flower I have ever seen in my very flower-filled life :  Tall Bearded Iris ‘JUST CRAZY’ . I got it from Mid-America Gardens.  I get many iris from them, and you can, too. They do  ship to Canada . Check the iris out at www.mid-americagarden.com
