‘Corona‘, our wonderful dog and I went for a short walk today. It is New Year’s Eve, and fairly mild out. Probably about 7 degrees Celsius – maybe 40 F . I was surprised to see my first Snowdrop in bloom ! We did get some snow a week ago, but it is all gone. Just outside the nursery’s neighbour’s house, two big Witch Hazels are in full bloom. They are lightly fragrant and so cheery ! I can’t tell which variety they are, but I know they are not Hamamelis ‘Pallida’ by their dark yellow colour – ‘Pallida‘ is a lighter sulphur shade and is more fragrant.
The lovely foliage of some self-sown Arum hybrids looks tropical , but they are very hardy. For December 31st, they must think Spring is on the way…..
