Established in 1991, and located in a charming 'equestrian pocket' on Vancouver's upscale
westside, this unique area called Southlands is a horse friendly enclave right in the city.
Large lots and small acreages house many stables, and it is not unusual to see horses and their
riders go by our gates. With delicious free coffee always on hand, many people tell us that they
come down to the nursery just to experience the beautiful atmosphere.
We hope you will visit soon!

The only thing I love more than gardening is sharing that passion with others.
I've had the pleasure of writing 2 books and have been featured in a number of professional
horticultural and gardening magazines. For the past 16 years I've also worked in television on
GlobalBC's Saturday morning news 'Gardening with Thomas Hobbs' segments. The nursery has
been featured on virtually every gardening show including 'The Victory Garden', 'Martha Stewart'
and 'Recreating Eden'. We were even home to 'The Orchid Nazi' on the hit TV show The X Files!

Wasn’t That A Party !!

Filed under: Uncategorized — yodiehead @ 10:59 pm

The  HARDY PLANT STUDY WEEKEND is an annual event that moves around the Pacific Northwest, from Portland, to Seattle, to Eugene, to Victoria or to Vancouver. This year it was here and we provided the venue for  the wind-up party at the nursery last Saturday night , June 15th . It was a gorgeous evening, with great food by our favourite caterers – Crown St. Catering.  On a large barbecue grill,  Crown St. co-owner Ingrid prepared salmon and beef tenderloin for 220 people !  Later on, we revealed a killer desert buffet by Vancouver’s fab BUTTER BAKERY ! It didn’t take long for nearly 1,000 deserts to disappear !

A huge tent provided seating for most of the crowd. You never know if it is going to rain…… and it didn’t !

054We emptied some of our plant tables for the yummy buffet

048 We could have sold twice as many tickets, but we don’t have enough space….. it was sold out last February !

043 Wines by B.C.’s own renowned HESTER CREEK WINERY were served by hand-picked bartenders !  Tom Fischer of Portland
and Richie Steffan of Seattle  were joined by some of Southlands loyal staff , namely Grant Robinson and Gord Davidson. Ex-Southlander Tyler Merkel
returned to keep these guys in line. Next year, the event will be in Seattle and I can’t wait to see all these plant friends again !

057  YUMMY !
