About five years ago, Brent and I began our search for a country property. We settled on (South) Langley, B.C., and often drove by this enchanting property………..but kept on looking, as it was not for sale.
Relatively intact old farm houses like this are very rare in our area. Almost all have been torn down or renovated into hideous mutations of what they once were.
I bet this house has lots to say….and all of it is good . You can just tell .
I still spend half my time in Vancouver, working most days at the nursery. I don’t mind (no,really, I don’t) the 45 minute drive to my other life. Great music, lovely car, no cops to be seen…..I can think.
Away from gardening questions….. people trying to use expired Groupon coupons, telephone cold calls selling credit card management systems…… yum.
I see a new kind of beauty on these roads. It is so authentic and uncontrived I feel like a visitor from another galaxy. I vow to photograph the old barns, rows of poplars, baby cows and roadside signs for free range eggs, but am in a rush to get to my new place and so I keep on driving.
‘I wish I had my camera !’ means I now keep one in my car for the commute home.
From time to time I plan to post a few pictures here of my neighbourhood – and maybe plant a seed in your head to make the move/ the clock is ticking/you only live once/where did the time go?
